Requirements to Become a CDL Commercial Driver Instructor

All applicants must be employed by an approved school or must have submitted an application the STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAY SAFETY AND MOTOR VEHICLES DIVISION OF MOTORIST SERVICES BUREAU OF MOTORIST COMPLIANCE to become a Commercial Driving School. (Commercial Driving School Application)

This course is designed to assist in perfecting a potential instructor's ability in becoming a CDL commercial driving school instructor (15A-11.009).  Emphasis is placed on knowledge, values, attitudes, and behavior in promoting safe driver instructions to the students.

This 32-hour course is conducted in three days.

A candidate must meet the following requirements in order to qualify for this course and certification:

1. Must be 21 years of age.
2. Must possess a Class A driver license.
3. Must have maintained a driving record with no more than 3 chargeable motor vehicle crashes or violations for three consecutive years.
4. Must have 3 years of documented Class A or B CDL driving experience.

All applicants must not have any physical or mental impediments that would prohibit them from satisfactorily providing driving instruction
